Yi Jing app updated with an all-new design, content, features

Southborough, MA - Flat Earth Studio today announces the version 4 update for Yi Jing, with an all-new design optimized for iOS 7 and 8, support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and more new features and books.

New features include:

  • A Search field for finding phrases in the current book.
  • A hexagram lookup table on the Book index page. Sort hexagrams by King Wen, Fu Xi, Wilhelm or Mandala sequences.
  • A trigram lookup table on Book trigram pages. Tap the trigram image to view. Sort trigrams by Earlier Heaven or Later Heaven sequences.
  • A redesigned journal Passcode feature for improved ease of use. It does not lock the entire screen, and instead hides all journal text, with a Lock icon that brings up the unlock screen.

This update includes a new pre-installed translation, “The I Ching Oracle,” by Nigel Richmond (available as a free download for current users), and a new free download translation, “Navigating Lines” also by Nigel Richmond.

“Two very good books on the I Ching have been out of print for a long time, and will not have been seen by many people consulting the Book of Changes today. One, 'Language of the Lines' by Nigel Richmond, was published in 1977 by Wildwood House and has never been reprinted; the other, also by Richmond, is 'The I Ching Oracle', an A4 comb-bound book published by the author himself in 1985. Two further editions of the latter work were published, but it was a very small-scale affair and probably no more than a couple of hundred copies in total of all the editions of the second book were ever put into circulation.

“Here Richmond has re-interpreted his own approach [from Language of The Lines], expanded it, and tied it closer to the original Chinese imagery. Richmond has the knack of hitting the nail squarely on the head when the book is used in consultation, his work has a Zen-like simplicity and 'cutting through' quality.”—Joel Biroco, Yijing Dao web site.

Also, “The I Ching or Book of Changes” by Richard Wilhelm, translated by Cary F. Baynes, Books I, II and III, have been added back for additional in-app purchase. "Princeton's Bollingen edition—still regarded as the best and most authentic by I Ching aficionados.”—The New York Times Book Review.

This translation is now available everywhere, worldwide.
